Catholic leaders don't want priest list released

A hearing on a motion to protect the identity of priests accused of sexual abuse in the trial of a Wayzata man who was sexually abused as a boy is being conducted Wednesday in Ramsey County District Court.

The victim is criticizing two Catholic bishops for trying to keep information about church predators concealed.

Attorneys for the Catholic leaders in the Twin Cities and Winona will argue to block the release of a list of priests accused of sexual abuse.

In February, a judge ordered that the list be given to attorney Jeff Anderson, who has been involved in multiple lawsuits alleging sexual abuse by priests.

He intends to use the list of names when the case of the Wayzata man goes to trial in June.

The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the Diocese of Winona have filed a motion to keep the list secret.
