In a press conference, Max Loaiza, president of the council, said that the criticism by Correa offended priests and bishops.
“It is important that the president alter his language, to revise his comments,” as they have been interpreted as “insults and threats to our hierarchy of the Church,” he said.
In an appearance before the media, President Correa rejected the criticism of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference over the nature of the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual unions and anti-religious freedom draft of the Constitution.
The president also contends that the bishops should not be “involved in politics” while instructing the faithful on the controversial aspects of the country’s Constitution.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
