Omaha group seeks sainthood for Father Flanagan

An Omaha group is pushing for the Roman Catholic priest who founded Boys Town to be named a saint.

In 1917, the Rev. Edward Flanagan founded Boys Town — made famous by the 1938 Academy Award-winning movie "Boys Town" that starred Mickey Rooney and Spencer Tracy.

The Father Flanagan League believes the late priest is worthy of sainthood.

The Catholic Church requires five steps to become a saint — one of them being that the candidate is responsible for a miracle.

One member of the group, Dr. Madeleine Leininger, says she's living proof of that miracle.

Leininger says she was diagnosed with three brain tumors eight years ago, and doctors only gave her weeks to live.

Leininger says after praying for help from Flanagan, doctors found that her tumors had disappeared.
