Pope Francis renewed his condemnation of human trafficking in a
November 7 address to a group of European religious dedicated to
battling the practice.In an address to Religious in Europe Networking Against Trafficking and Exploitation (RENATE), the Pope characterized human trafficking as “a modern form of slavery, which violates the God-given dignity of so many of our brothers and sisters, and constitutes a true crime against humanity.”
The Pope complimented RENATE for its work to reaise awareness of “this scourge that especially affects women and children.”
Their work, he said, is an “effective witness to the Gospel in one of the great peripheries of society.”
