World's oldest bishop turns 103

The world's oldest bishop turns 103 on New Year's Day (1 January).

Jose de Jesus Sahagun de la Parra, Bishop of Ciudad Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico until 1993, is one of the last four living fathers of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) - and the only one to have taken part in its opening.

Sahagun de la Parra has been a priest for 78 years and a bishop for 63 years.

Since July 2022, he has been the oldest bishop in the world.

Nine bishops are currently over 100 years old, more than ever before.
