UN Secretary-General receives climate statement

Statement handed overBan Ki-Moon has received the COP22 Interfaith Climate Statement signed by more than 230 eminent faith and spiritual leaders from 44 countries at the global climate talks in Marrakesh.

A statement released by the Australian Religious Response to Climate Change said the leaders are calling on nations to manage justly the transition to a low carbon economy and urged governments to shift massive investments in fossil fuels into renewable energy, in line with the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development goals (SDGs).

"The Secretary-General continues his strong call for redirecting investments into clean energy, including clean energy access," the statement said.

On November 10, faith leaders held Building the Divest Invest Movement with Faiths, Foundations and Finance, an official side event of the COP22 UN Convention on Climate Change, which began on November 7 in Marrakesh, Morocco.
