UN Secretary-General receives climate statement
Ban Ki-Moon has received the
COP22 Interfaith Climate Statement signed by more than 230 eminent faith
and spiritual leaders from 44 countries at the global climate talks in
Marrakesh.
A statement released by the Australian Religious Response to
Climate Change said the leaders are calling on nations to manage justly
the transition to a low carbon economy and urged governments to shift
massive investments in fossil fuels into renewable energy, in line with
the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development goals (SDGs).
"The Secretary-General continues his strong call for redirecting
investments into clean energy, including clean energy access," the
statement said.
On November 10, faith leaders held Building the Divest Invest
Movement with Faiths, Foundations and Finance, an official side event of
the COP22 UN Convention on Climate Change, which began on November 7 in
Marrakesh, Morocco.
