In order to cope with the phenomenon of street children, the
Association of Moroccans Resident in Spain has proposed the construction
of a reception center and guidance for unaccompanied minors in the
Moroccan port town of Nador, a few kilometers away from the Spanish
region of Melilla.
According to information sent to Fides, the space is
destined for the education of street children.
According to the head of the Association, Melilla as Nador are places of
transit for these children, whose goal is to reach the peninsula and
other European countries in search of a better future.
Many of them do
it to help their respective families who have limited economic
resources. As reported by the children living on the streets, most of
those who meet each other in the region of Nador and Beni Enzar arrive
from Fez.
They are organized in groups and survive by begging until they
manage to evade controls at border posts and enter Melilla.
However,
there is also another reality, refers the Association: we are talking
about children who arrive in Melilla with the correct documentation and
are accompanied by family members.
