Bishop Julian Porteous, an auxiliary of the Sydney archdiocese, pointed out that governments traditionally “have acknowledged and supported the general proposition that a child’s best interest is served when that child is raised by a mother and a father.”
He referred to the 2003 Vatican statement on the issue, which said that “the absence of sexual complementarity in [same-sex] unions creates obstacles in the normal development of children.’
