Mr Kenny’s has outright refused to accede from a request European Affairs Minister Lucinda Creighton that it be taken out of the legislation.

He said it was “not possible” to exclude it, adding he was bound by constitution and he could unpick decisions of the Supreme Court.

The Taoiseach also said he would not ask people to support proposals that would lead to a liberal abortion regime.

And he denied he was breaking a pre-election Fine Gael pledge by legislating for abortion.
