Man admits Pope visit bomb hoax

A MAN has admitted trying to disrupt the Pope's visit to Scotland by claiming there was a bomb at Edinburgh Airport.

Kenneth Ross made the hoax call to Lothian and Borders Police just hours before the pontiff was due to touch down.

The threat was taken seriously and security was tightened until it was established that the call was a malicious prank.

Ross, 52, from Blackridge, West Lothian, had been due to stand trial after he earlier denied committing the offence on September 16 last year.

But yesterday, after his lawyers viewed CCTV footage recorded at the time of the offence, he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of at Livingston Sheriff Court.

He admitted committing a breach of the peace by making the call.

Sentence was deferred for background reports.
