The Catholic Primate of All Ireland says the church must take
whatever steps are necessary to prevent any child sexual abuse in
future.
Archbishop of Armagh Eamon Martin made the comments in Tullamore as he opened the National Safeguarding Conference.
He says it is important to establish the truth of what happened in
the past and to ensure that the principles of justice are fully
respected.
Archbishop Martin said that responding to survivors is ‘particularly
challenging and sensitive when it comes to issues of redress and
compensation’ and that these issues need to be approached with
‘openness, respecting the right to justice for survivors, respondents
and all concerned’.
The conference is taking place at the Tullamore Court Hotel.
