I do, yeah! It’s the wedding of the year that has the whole parish talking but there’ll be no ‘living happily ever after’.
Just
hours before the ‘happy couple’ tie the knot, the bride has made a
shocking prediction — the ‘marriage’ will last just a few hours, and
they’re both fine with that.
“There will be no romance. And it won’t be a tasteful ceremony — we can guarantee that. But it will be great craic,” Deirdre O’Sullivan, said.
“We are hoping to keep a lot of the details about the ceremony under wraps so as not to spoil the surprise.”
The ‘big fat fake wedding’ ceremony in Allihies tomorrow night was organised when locals realised there would be no wedding in the parish this year.
They devised the fake wedding, complete with a complex back-story of romance and love, as a fundraiser for Garnish GAA club.
Following a whirlwind romance, a fictional bachelor farmer from Allihies, ‘Jeremiah Tomáisín Mór’, swept ‘Yalanna Borkowski’, a Polish girl who works in a local shop, off her feet, and popped the question.
Local primary school teacher, Niall O’Sullivan, 31, will play the role of the groom, with Deirdre, 29, assuming the role of his blushing bride.
“We’re both single and up for a bit of craic. But there is no hope of a romance,” she assured.
They have roped in Moz O’Neill, from Garnish and Jane Joe from Adrigole as bridesmaids, with Danny Galvin, from Glengarriff and Paul McCarthy, from Ardgroom as groomsmen.
The couple will walk up the aisle in Allihies Community Hall at 8.30pm tomorrow night before dancing the night away with their guests to the sounds of Hell for Leather.
Deirdre said she’s already looking forward to being young, free and single on Sunday morning.
