Still much holiness in the Church, says Apostolic Nuncio

The Apostolic Nuncio in Australia, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, said there is still much holiness in the Church, despite the presence of "withered flowers, barren trees and even plants that produced bitter fruits", according to The Catholic Weekly.

Delivering his homily during this year's anniversary Mass to celebrate the feast day of the founder of Opus Dei, St Josemaría Escrivá, Archbishop Lazzarotto told the congregation of more than 2000 people in St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney that the saint's "true inheritance" to the Church was holiness.

"It is not time to isolate ourselves or abandon the Church because of the sins of other members," he said during the Mass on June 25.

"Never cease to pray that all your priests be fully clothed in holiness."

Archbishop Lazzarotto said that although St Josemaría lived in a cultural context and historical moment that was very different from our own, his message was still alive and real today because it was based in "the perennial reality of God".
