Mubarak Pledges To Protect Coptic Christians After Threats Made

Egypt's Coptic Christians have been promised protection by the nations president Hosny Mubarak.

The promise comes after the Islamic State of Iraq terror group made threats against them.

The group which took responsibility for an attack on an Iraqi Catholic Church which left 52 dead issued the warning after claiming that two recent Muslim converts were being held captive by Christians against their will.

State run media outlet Al-Ahram said Mubarak had condemned :” any terrorist plots targeting the Copts of Egypt”.

The two alleged converts Camilia Shehata and Wafa Constantine are married to Egyptian priests.

They are alleged by Christian groups to have been forcibly converted to Islam after being kidnapped.

Egypt has stepped up security around churches and other Christian religious institutions.
