Europe should require nations to accept immigrants, says secretary-general of Italian bishops’ conference

Image result for Italian bishops’ conferenceEuropean countries show that they are “weak and blind” when they build walls to keep out immigrants, said that secretary-general of the Italian bishops’ conference.

Bishop Nunzio Galantino said that the European community should require nations to accept immigrants, and integrate them into their societies. 

Regarding the work required to help immigrants find a secure place, he said that “you can’t save people’s lives and then not offer them a possibility for the future.”

Bishop Galantino said that the deaths of immigrants who have drowned as they sought refuge in Europe are “a slap to European democracy, which is unable to safeguard and protect people who are fleeing tragic situations that have also been created by the foreign policy and economic choices” of the European nations.
