Archbishops 'entitled to opinions' on abortion, says Lynch

The Junior Minister Kathleen Lynch says the four Archbishops of the Catholic Church are entitled to their opinions on abortion.
Cardinal Seán Brady of Armagh, along with Archbishops Diarmuid Martin of Dublin, Dermot Clifford of Cashel and Emly, and Michael Neary of Tuam have said legislating for abortion will pave the way for the direct and intentional killing of unborn children.

Prior to the Government's decision to legislate for medical abortions, Minister Lynch warned that the Cabinet is limited in how it can act and further cases are likely to come before the courts.

Speaking this morning, Minister Lynch said the Church is entitled to its opinion too.

“I’ve always held the view the Church, no matter what Church, has the right to their own opinion. They are speaking to a particular audience and have a duty to ensure their point of view is heard.”
