Pope adds two events to Christmas-season schedule

Pope Benedict XVI has added two events to his schedule for the Christmas season: a lunch on December 26 for people under the care of the Missionaries of Charity; and a visit to the Gemelli hospital on January 5.

The December 26 luncheon will be held in the Paul VI auditorium at the Vatican, to accommodate a crowd of people from centers in Rome run by the Missionaries of Charity.

The event will Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the founder of the religious order; this year marks the 100th anniversary of her birth.

During his visit to the Gemelli hospital the Holy Father will visit the children’s ward, and help distribute presents to the children on the eve of Little Christmas.

He will also bless a new unit for the care of children born with spina bifida.
