ANOTHER woman has made a formal complaint about the alleged serial paedophile priest at the centre of the National Board for Safeguarding Children’s report into the Diocese of Cloyne. The complaint about Father B was made to gardaí in North Cork in the past month. However, they refused to reveal any more details about the victim.
A spokesman for the diocese of Cloyne confirmed they had received a complaint from gardaí "concerning a priest who is currently out of ministry".
This brings to 10 the number of abuse complaints that have been made against Father B. Two files, detailing abuse allegations made by two different women, were sent to the DPP last year.
No decision has yet been reached by the DPP in these cases.
Despite the many files sent to his office, the DPP has never yet taken a case against the cleric.
The NBSC report detailed how four separate allegations of child abuse were levelled at Father B between 1995 and 2005.
Father B has since retired and is living in North Cork.
The raft of allegations against Father B will be under the microscope again later this year when the Dublin Archdiocese Commission of Investigation report into the Diocese of Cloyne is published.
A spokeswoman for the Commission said it is likely her office will give the document to Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern before the end of October.
It is likely that Mr Ahern will seek legal advice before making its findings public.
The commission started investigations into the Diocese of Cloyne last year at the behest of Minister for Children Barry Andrews, who was not satisfied he could trust the diocese to report matters faithfully.
Father B was also the subject of a secret Catholic Church canonical court hearing last year.
The court was established, by order of the Vatican, to hear evidence against Father B and could have led to his defrocking.
However, having met with the three canonical judges, all priests, his victims refused to co-operate with the trial until their criminal cases had been dealt with and the archdiocese report published.
