Papal Nuncio is appointed to Australia

The Papal Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, has been appointed to Australia.

The 65-year-old Italian-born diplomat will oversee preparations for Pope Benedict's planned visit to Sydney in July, for the biennial world youth day.

Dr Lazzarotto has served Papal Nuncio to Ireland for seven years.

He was previously Nuncio to Iraq and Jordan.
