RTE reporter Aoife Kavanagh has found herself in the headlines following the controversy over the Fr Kevin Reynolds defamation case.
The well-respected journalist, who hails from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, has worked at the national broadcaster for the past 15 years during which time she has secured two of the plum current affairs shows -- 'Prime Time' on TV and latterly as a presenter on radio's 'Morning Ireland'.
Ms Kavanagh joined RTE as a reporter on 'Morning Ireland' in 1996 and, just over a year ago, formally became one of its presenters, working alongside Cathal Mac Coille and Rachel English. She has worked on 'Prime Time' since 2009.
Ms Kavanagh has travelled extensively for the national broadcaster, reporting from the conflict zone of East Timor in 1999 and on the aftermath of the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004.
In the same year she travelled to the US to cover the presidential election and jetted off again in 2008 to cover the civil unrest blighting Kenya.
During her travels she developed a particular interest in Africa and in both 2006 and 2007 she reported from Sierra Leone and South Africa for the overseas development series 'Far Away Up Close'.
Ms Kavanagh had been tipped as one of the potential replacements for Charlie Bird in the US correspondent post.
