Hundred years of faith launched in County Cavan village

A new book entitled One Hundred Years of Faith in Loughduff was launched in the County Cavan village at the weekend to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the local church, which was rededicated after refurbishment works were finalised there last weekend.

The book features details on parish clergy over the past one hundred years as well as containing photographs of various services that have been held in the church since it was first opened in 1910.

Saint Joseph's church in the picturesque County Cavan village has been closed since last February while refurbishment work has taken place.

On Saturday night last the Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise Bishop Colm O'Reilly assisted by local parish priest Canon Owen Devanney celebrated the special mass to celebrate the church's reopening.

Among the highlights of the church refurbishment are the new altar, ambo and tabernacle, which have all been donated to the church by the Sisters of Mercy who reside in nearby Granard in County Longford.

The front porch of the church now accommodates a devotional area to honour Saint Joseph and a sanctuary lamp that was removed from the church in 1979 has been replaced.

The Stations of the Cross have been revitalised and the doors to the church have been improved to allow ease of access.
