Teen sues San Antonio Archdiocese, alleging abuse

A West Texas teen has filed a lawsuit against the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Antonio, alleging that he was sexually abused repeatedly by a parish priest.

The teen's attorney, Tom Rhodes, says the boy was assaulted in 2006 and 2007 by the Rev. John M. Fiala, who was then the pastor at the Sacred Heart of Mary Church in rural Rocksprings, Texas.

Rocksprings is 110 miles northwest of San Antonio.

Rhodes says the teen's mother complained about Fiala taking the boy out of town without her permission, but the archdiocese didn't intervene.

The lawsuit names Archbishop Jose Gomez, just named to a high profile post leading the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, as defendant as head of the San Antonio archdiocese.

A call to the Archdiocese of San Antonio for comment wasn't returned Thursday.
