Womenpriests not a Catholic splinter group (Contribution)

Thank you for the article on the ordinations of Jim Lauder and Monica Kilburn-Smith in Victoria.

However, I need to make one correction.

The Roman Catholic Womenpriests movement is not a sect.

We do not desire a schism nor a break from the Roman Catholic Church, but rather we work positively within the Church.

Roman Catholic Womenpriests offer a gift of a renewed priestly ministry to the church in a community of equals.

In 1976, the Pontifical Biblical Commission concluded that there is no biblical reason to prohibit women’s ordination. According to recent scholarship, women were ordained for the first 1,200 years of the church’s history.

Roman Catholic Womenpriests are reclaiming our ancient tradition.

Women and men are created in God’s image and both may represent Christ as priests.

Jim and Monica are responding to the call to serve God’s people. They are offering an inclusive model of a renewed Christ-centered church in which all are welcome to receive sacraments at the table of God’s boundless love.
