Sexual abuse lawsuit against Catholic Diocese of Peoria

A family has filed a lawsuit against the Catholic Diocese of Peoria alleging a now retired pastor molested their young son at a Normal church more than a decade ago.

The lawsuit filed at the Peoria County Courthouse on Wednesday alleges that Monsignor Thomas Maloney sexually molested a then 8-year-old boy inside Epiphany Church in 1995 and 1996.

A message left after business hours for the Catholic Dioceses of Peoria was not immediately returned.

Chancellor Patricia Gibson told WEEK-TV that the diocese isn't aware of a lawsuit filed in Peoria County and is declining to comment.

The family, which lived in Normal, seeks $50,000 in damages.

A court date has been set for November. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
