Pope Benedict XVI: No longer a transitional figure for US (Contribution)

THE VISIT of Pope Benedict XVI is significant and is part of the efforts of the Catholic Church and the Vatican to play an active role in the world.

Between the era of Pope Pius XII and John Paul II, the Catholic Church was sidelined by two countries of the cold war era with their culture of death called the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States.

With the election of John Paul II in 1978, the Catholic Church started to play an active role in the politics of the world.

The election of Pope Benedict XVI in 2005 was a continuation of the tendency initiated by John Paul II and was dismissed by the US mainstream media and others who thought of Benedict XVI as a transitional figure before the arrival of a more proactive Pope.

Pope Benedict XVI has proved his critics wrong by sending his secretary of state Bertone to Cuba to negotiate a more open stance for the Catholic Church in that enslaved island.

Pope Benedict XVI also went to Brazil and managed to revive Catholicism in that country which is witnessing an increase in conversion to evangelical Christianity.

The only mistake that Pope Benedict XVI committed was to criticize the Brazilian singer Daniela Mercury and prohibit her from singing in the Vatican Christmas concert.

The visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the USA comes at a time when the United States of America is becoming a country of atheists and is witnessing immoral forms of entertainment.

I can make these comments since I was born and raised in America and I still live in America.

The visit of Pope Benedict XVI comes at a time when the Catholic Church in America has been affected by the child sex scandals of priests. We are not going to deny that there have been priests who abused their positions and violated the confidence of our children. We are not going to deny what has happened was unjust.

Pope Benedict XVI will be facing a country that in fact has used the child sex scandal as an excuse to persecute the Catholic Church and the US Latin population since the Catholic Church was opposed to the war in Iraq from the beginning.

[In fact the children who are now adults and are suing the Catholic Church in America have given the idea that I should take the US governing elite to Court for destroying my childhood with their acts of crime against humanity. It also gave the indigenous population and the African American population an excuse to sue Washington for crimes committed against them. I support the lawsuits of the indigenous and African American Population against the US elite in the same way I support those who were victims of paedophile priests to sue the Catholic Church]

I hope that the visit of Pope Benedict XVI will usher the much-needed peace in a country such as the United States of America which has suffered from an identity crisis since its inception and has been at war with everybody including itself.
