Italian donors to provide Vatican Christmas tree for 2007

The Italian region of Val Badia, in the Dolomite Mountains, will donate this year's Christmas tree for the Vatican.

Each year the Vatican accepts a giant fir tree from a different European region, to be set up in St. Peter's Square at Christmas time.

Last year the tree came from the Italian region of Calabria, the previous year from Austria.

In addition to the immense tree that is illuminated in St. Peter's Square, the donors supply 50 other smaller trees to decorate the Vatican, including five for the papal apartments and one for the Vatican Museums.
