Boston church vigil enters third year

The longest vigil in the history of Roman Catholic America enters its third year in Boston.

Parishioners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in East Boston will mark the occasion with a mass followed by an Italian style luncheon.

The vigil was triggered by the planned closing of the parish under the 2004 Reconfiguration Plan of the Archdiocese of Boston.

Supporters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel have invited parishioners from four other churches observing a vigil to join them.

The four churches include St. Therese in Everett, St. James in Wellesley, St. Frances in Scituate, and St. Jeremiah in Framingham.
