Croatia votes in favour of the family

Voters in the country have backed a move to have marriage recognised as that between a man and a women in the constitution.

Following the gathering of some 740,000 signatures to force the referendum towards protecting traditional marriage, the Catholic group In the Name of the Family was backed by 66% of those who voted last weekend.

The Catholic Church backed the aims of the referendum, which will now see marriage defended as between a man and woman until and unless at least two-thirds of parliamentarians vote for a change.
