Roman Catholic priest in sex allegations

A 35-YEAR-OLD woman from Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb has spilled the beans on a romance that has lasted almost two years that she purports to have had with a Roman Catholic priest based at St Bernard’s Church in Pumula, Father Cephas Gumbo (36), who is sworn to celibacy.

Clerical celibacy is a vow that Roman Catholic priests take to abstain from sexual intercourse.

The woman, who declined to be named, said she had decided to end the relationship as she suspects that the clergyman might be cheating on her.

She told the reporters that when she fell in love with the priest — who initially identified himself to her as Dingilizwe Msipa — in May 2008, she was not aware that he was a Roman Catholic priest.

“I was already deeply in love when I discovered that he was a Roman Catholic priest and therefore has taken a vow of celibacy and I could not reverse the situation so we continued with the affair,’’ said the woman.

She said when she first met the priest, her car had broken down and he had acted like a Good Samaritan by assisting her.

“I must admit, he was good to me as he assisted me to get the car going as it had broken down while I was travelling. It was at that point that we exchanged details and in later contacts, one thing
