Ndola Catholic bishop resigns

NDOLA Catholic Archdiocese Bishop Noel O'Regan has resigned from his position with immediate effect.

Ndola diocese Vicar General Raphael Chanda confirmed the development in an interview in Ndola yesterday.

“I can confirm that Bishop O'Regan has resigned,” Fr Chanda said.

He said Bishop O'Regan had written to Pope Benedict XVI in Rome, Italy, requesting to resign and that the Pope accepted his request.

Fr Chanda said Bishop O'Regan will be missed and wished him well in his endeavours.

He said Bishop Alick Banda from Solwezi diocese has been appointed to take over from Bishop Oregan.

“Bishop Banda, who was brought to assist Bishop O'Regan, will take over as Ndola Archbishop,” Fr Chanda said.

Bishop O'Regan was appointed Ndola diocese Archbishop five years ago.
