St. Louis archdiocese disciplines priest accused of sexual abuse

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has removed a Roman Catholic clergyman’s “priest faculties,” after receiving information about an investigation.

The archdiocese released a statement Saturday, saying the Rev. Robert Osborne may not celebrate the Mass or reside at an archdiocesan parish rectory.

It cited information about an investigation from Osborne’s religious community, the Society of Mary, which did not respond immediately to interview requests.

Osborne formerly headed a Marianist-run high school, Vianney, in Kirkwood, but left in 2006 after he was accused of sexually abusing a student.

The civil case was settled out of court, and no criminal charges were filed.

Osborne has been listed as a visiting priest at St. Peter Catholic Church in Kirkwood.
