INDIA - New Jesuit university in New Town

The West Bengal Assembly has recently approved a 2016 draft law of the Saint Xavier University of Calcutta, thus paving the way for the creation of a new university in New Town, Rajarhat, to meet the growing demand for valid facilities for the state secondary education.

According to information sent to Agenzia Fides from the General Curia of the Jesuits, the project envisages that the University can be composed of several institutions of Bengal realized and managed by the order of the Jesuits. 

The Educational Foundation of St. Xavier of Calcutta, will administer the institutions of higher education throughout the State entrusted to the Jesuits Foundation. 

The university will provide education, teaching, training and research in various disciplines and specialized fields. 

These include science, technology, law, administration, social sciences, medicine, performing arts. The opening is scheduled for the 2017-2018 academic year.
