Legislators in the Netherlands have given preliminary approval to restrictions on the use of Islamic veils that cover the face.
The measure bans “face-covering clothing” from public places such as
government buildings, schools, hospitals, and public transportation.
Although the proposal would also ban ski masks, it was clearly adopted
in response to Islamic veils.
Approved by a large majority in the lower house of the Dutch parliament, the bill must still gain approval in the upper chamber.
