“The formation of the young is an investment for the future,” Pope
Francis said in an October 21 address to members of the St. John Paul II
Foundation; “may the young never be robbed of their hope for a better
tomorrow!”
The St. John Paul II Foundation was set up 35 years ago to help
students complete their education, especially in the countries of
Eastern Europe.
In his remarks the Pope recalled his own visit to
Poland, and called attention to the country’s two “apostles of Divine
Mercy”—Sts. Faustina Kowalska and John Paul II. Each saint, he said,
emphasized the power of God’s mercy.
“This love makes itself
particularly noticed in contact with suffering, injustice, and poverty,”
he said.
The Pope encouraged the members of the Foundation to imitate
the “two luminous witnesses” with their own generosity.
