Teresa DevlinTHE Church’s watchdog on child protection has announced the appointment of Teresa Devlin as its new Chief Executive Officer.
She succeeds Ian Elliot who retired last June as head of the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Church in Ireland (NBSCCCI).

Ms Devlin had been acting as Interim Chief Executive of the NBSCCCI following Ian Elliot’s retirement, and also prior to his departure, when he was on sick leave for a number of months.

Prior to that she worked as Director of the National Board. She joined the organisation in August 2008 after working as a social worker in the area of child protection in Northern Ireland.

Announcing the appointment, Chairman of the NBSCCCI, John Morgan said that Ms Devlin “brings a unique combination of experience, compassion and insight to the role and we are delighted to have her leading the team.”

Mr Morgan added, “We are hugely confident that she will continue to work with distinction as she moves into the CEO post permanently.”

Last December the NBSCCCI published its fourth tranche of reviews of safeguarding practices in dioceses and religious orders.

So far the organisation has completed a total of 27 audits of church authorities.
