Christian village attacked in Nigeria; 30 dead

Gunmen attacked a Christian village in central Nigeria on January 6, according to wire service reports.

Daniel Dem, a local lawmaker, said that 30 people died in the attack. In addition, 40 homes were burned down.

“We have security men there and if the attack started at 8 a.m. and lasted until after noon,” said Dem. “I think something must be wrong. What are the military there for?”

Predominantly Muslim Fulani herdsmen are suspected in the attack, though a Fulani spokesman denied that the tribe was involved.
