Benefit concert for Durham church repair

Durham Times: Fr Benjamin Earl outside St Cuthbert's RC Church, DurhamA CONCERT will raise money for the restoration of one of Britain’s oldest purpose-built Catholic churches. 

St Cuthbert’s RC Church, off Old Elvet, Durham City, which was built in 1827 – two years before the Catholic emancipation – is undergoing a £250,000 refurbishment. 

A benefit concert will be held at nearby Elvet Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 29, at 7.45pm. 

It will feature violinist Miriam Davis, pianists Laura Erel and Ellena Hale, classical guitarist Matias Reed and two choirs. 

The programme will include music by Telemann, Ravel and Will Todd. 

Admission is free. 

There will be a collection for the stonework restoration fund. 

Doors open at 7.15pm.
