Argentina’s bishops have urged police in provinces across the nation to end their weeklong strike for higher pay.
“Many of Argentina's 23 provinces have endured long nights of chaos,”
with at least seven people killed, hundreds of people injured, and
“thousands” of businesses vandalized or looted, according to the
Associated Press.
In some cities, AP continued, officials have agreed
“to salary increases so steep that many provinces won't be able to pay
their debts at month's end.”
“Stop this behavior that jeopardizes safety and social peace,” the
president of the bishops’ conference said in a statement, as reported by
the Fides news agency.
“We ask authorities to resolve this situation as
soon as possible in order to reassure the community.”
