http://www.stjohnskilkenny.com/images/frontpage/Bishop.JPGBishop Seamus Freeman of Ossory has written to the clergy of his diocese to inform them that he has had a stroke.

The Bishop explained in his letter that the stroke was a mild one and he said he is expected to make a full recovery.

However, he will be taking three to four weeks off ministry to convalesce before returning to duties.

Bishop Freeman is the 94th Bishop of Ossory.

A member of the Pallotine order, he was ordained bishop by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin in St Mary’s Cathedral in Kilkenny in December 2007.

He has made the restoration of St Mary’s Cathedral one of his main ambitions for the remaining five years he has as head of the diocese of 89 churches, which are spread out across 42 parishes, and which serve a total of 78,273 Catholics.
