Christian school attacked after girl dies of trauma

Angry protestors ransacked a Christian school in Kolkata over the death of a girl, who was locked in the school bathroom by her seniors.

Protesters ransacked the Christ Church School in north Kolkata, breaking computers and furniture while demanding action against school authorities.

Oindrila Das, a student of class 6 in the school, died yesterday, eight days after her seniors locked her in the bathroom for not giving them 100 rupees.

They were allegedly helped by the school caretaker. They let Das out only when school got over.

She fell ill and complained to her parents about the incident. Later, she was admitted to a nursing home.

Her family said the doctors found nothing physically wrong and released her from the nursing home on Monday.

They alleged that she had gone into a depression following the ragging incident.

Her parents also suspect wrong treatment by a doctor who gave her an injection on Tuesday.

When she was taken to hospital, she was declared brought dead.

"She was traumatised in school. That is why she fell ill. There is also medical negligence. The doctors didn't treat her properly," her mother Rekha Das alleged.

Her parents have filed a police complaint against the school.

Sharmila Sarkar, the principal of the school, said they would take action against the girls who locked the girl.
