THE Catholic authorities have threatened to seek an
injunction against a former employee who plans to protest outside a
church this weekend.
Anne Marie Horan said she would demonstrate outside Mary Immaculate Queen in Barna, Co Galway, on Sunday.
SIPTU
said the Galway Diocese had sent legal letters to a former employee
threatening to sue her if she went ahead with her protest, and warning
that it would seek an injunction.
Ms Horan worked as parish co-ordinator for the parish of Barna for almost six years before she was made redundant last month.
In May, she raised concerns including issues around her job title and duties which had been removed from her.
SIPTU sector organiser Adrian Kane claims the concerns were never investigated or given due process.
Solicitors
for the Galway Diocese said the protest was "a breach of the Industrial
Relations Act" and queried why SIPTU had not referred the case to the
Employment Appeals Tribunal or Labour Relations Commission.
