The group said that 90 per cent of clergy it met during meetings with diocesan priests councils over the past two months expressed dissatisfaction with the Missal.

In a report on the group's meetings the ACP revealed that many priests are still using the older Missal translation while others are using parts of both versions.

They also reported that a substantial number of bishops suggested that the decline in vocations in Ireland was not linked to the Church but caused by a lack of faith among the people.

"[They] have bought into the evils of materialism and consumerism, and don't have time or interest in faith any more. They have, to all intents and purposes, become pagan," the ACP recorded.
