East Anglia Bishop Hopes installed

Bishop Alan Hopes was today installed as the new Bishop of East Anglia.

The 69-year-old former Anglican priest was previously an auxiliary in Westminster.

The Diocese of East Anglia has been vacant for almost two years following the death of Bishop Michael Evans in July 2011.

Bishop Hopes was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1995 having been received into the Church the year before. In 2003 he was ordained a bishop.

He was appointed as an episcopal delegate by the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales to help with the establishment of a personal ordinariate designed to welcome former Anglicans who wished to become Catholics while retaining elements of their identity.
