The review which covers files from 1975 up to 2010 revealed that allegations were made against 14 priests between the dates covered, but Only one priest in the Diocese has been convicted of having committed an offence against a child or young person since 1975.

The report revealed that two Galway priests against whom allegations were made have left the priesthood.

A further five priests have since died.

No priests are named in the report and the Bishop of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora  - Martin Drennan said the concerns expressed about the three priests were not of sufficient nature to warrant their removal from ministry.

Meanwhile two other audits have singled out the former bishops in the dioceses of Ferns and Clogher for failing to prevent child abuse in the past.

The report into Ferns is severely critical of two former Bishops in the Diocese for their handling of child sexual abuse cases.

The border diocese of Clogher was also criticised for its past failings.
