Dr Martin was speaking at the ordination of three new Dominican deacons in Dublin.
Addressing the congregation, he referred to Pope Benedict's recent comments about divisions within the Catholic Church, saying: "There are many who claim to serve the church and the unity of the church and yet damage the unity of the church, not so much through false doctrine, but through a self-centred life-style."
