PLANS for the first crematorium in the west have hit a stumbling block after the proposal was rejected by planners.
The
application for the crematorium, to be based in Tuam, Co Galway, was
rejected over concerns regarding the bulk, scale and nature of the
proposed development.
However, the businessman behind the project,
Tommy Varden, is determined to press ahead with the idea.
He has now
appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanala.
"My
engineer has put in the appeal to An Bord Pleanala and he has no doubt
that we will get the green light. The decision just seems crazy to me.
The height of the structure has already been reduced," he said.
Objections came from a medical clinic, a funeral directors and two local residents.
