The former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, which once served the area's Polish community, is up for sale for $79,000.

The 102-year-old church building, which sits on Dubois Street on the city's east side, closed as a Catholic church in 1989.

Most recently it was the home of Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church, which lost it to foreclosure. The building was bought through auction by an investor and is now up for sale.

"I've had a lot of inquiries," said Kevin Messier, co-owner of Real Estate Professional Services in Southfield, which specializes in selling church buildings and other church real estate. "There's a lot of interest in the building."

Messier said the church needs electrical and plumbing work and added that the stained glass windows were previously removed from the building.

He said the building's heating costs run about $5,000 a month.
