Derry to host ‘40 Days of Prayer for Life’

Msgr Eamon Martin, Administrator of the Diocese of Derry.The administrator of Derry diocese, Monsignor Eamon Martin has invited parishes to join together in ‘40 Days of Prayer for LIFE’ in the New Year.

Priests and people of the diocese have been invited to offer the rosary every day from Saturday, January 5 to Ash Wednesday on February 13 for the intention ‘That all human life will be respected from the first moment of conception until the moment of natural death’. 

Participants are also asked to undertake some form of fasting or penance on Wednesdays and/or Fridays during the 40 days.

The initiative will start with a Vigil of Prayer and Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary at St Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn, Buncrana Road, Derry, on the evening of Friday, January 4. 

 The vigil will begin with First Friday Mass at 7pm concelebrated by Msgr Martin followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until midnight. 

The vigil will close immediately afterwards with First Saturday Mass at 12.05am.
