Bishop-elect prepares for Ordination as Bishop of Cloyne

On November 24, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Canon William Crean as the next Bishop of Cloyne. 

Canon Crean is from Tralee, Co. Kerry. 

He studied for the priesthood at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth and the Irish College in Rome. 

He was ordained a priest of Kerry Diocese in 1976. 

His first assignments were as a teacher and chaplain to post-primary schools in Killorglin and Tarbert. 

In 1987 he was appointed a Diocesan Adviser for Religious Education. 

In 1990 he was among the founder-directors of Radio Kerry. 

Bishop-elect Crean has served as Parish Priest of Castlegregory (1999-2006) and Caherciveen (2006-2012), where he managed ongoing renovations to the Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church. 

Canon Crean will be ordained bishop of Cloyne on January 27, 2013 at St. Colman’s Cathedral, Cobh.
