Pro life groups mobilise as government prepares abortion proposals

In the wake of the tragic death of Savita Halappanavar and the mounting pressure on the government to introduce legislation for abortion, a new pro-life group for women gathered this past weekend in Dublin.

“Everybody supports all necessary life-saving treatment for women, but the proposal to legislate for abortion on grounds of a threat of suicide is medically very questionable and could lead to abortion on demand in our country,” said Anne-Maree Quinn from Women’s Initiative for Life.

“Many women are concerned about the way this issue is being discussed in the media; with emotion and sensation overriding factual information and rational debate.  There has never been such a pressing need for women to come together and make their pro-life voice heard,” she added.
