In the wake of the tragic death of Savita Halappanavar and the
mounting pressure on the government to introduce legislation for
abortion, a new pro-life group for women gathered this past weekend in
Dublin.
“Everybody supports all necessary life-saving treatment for women,
but the proposal to legislate for abortion on grounds of a threat of
suicide is medically very questionable and could lead to abortion on
demand in our country,” said Anne-Maree Quinn from Women’s Initiative
for Life.
“Many women are concerned about the way this issue is being discussed
in the media; with emotion and sensation overriding factual information
and rational debate. There has never been such a pressing need for
women to come together and make their pro-life voice heard,” she added.
